Widjojo Ph.D is a Professor and Head of Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory, at University of Indonesia. He is teaching and professional practice have covered many aspects of geotechnical engineering including foundations, earth retaining structures, slope stability, soil/structure interaction, underground construction, laboratory testing, and earthquake engineering. He has developed on a consulting basis engineering solutions for problems concerning foundation performance, ground movement effects on structures, earth retaining structures, earthquake engineering, shallow tunneling, and infrastructure rehabilitation. He is also Chief of HATTI from 2019 – 2023.

Dr. Marc Ballouz

(International Society For Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering President)

Dr. Marc Ballouz is a founder of Institute for Geotechnics & Materials, IGM in 1997. IGM have offices in 5 different countries with more than 200 employees, and a large fleet of specialized equipment for geotechnical contracting. He is considered an international expert in Foundation engineering particularly deep foundations in difficult soil conditions for special structures such as bridges, high-rise buildings, wind turbines, and other.

In Parallel to his entrepreneurial ventures, Dr. Ballouz enjoyed teaching soil mechanics and foundation engineering courses at the Lebanese American University (LAU), Notre Dame University (NDU), and the Lebanese University (UL), in Lebanon for more than 10 years.

Dr. Ballouz has been very active with ISSMGE as the Vice Chair of the Innovation & Development Committee (IDC), then for 2 years (2011 – 2013) he led the PRC (Public Relations Committee) of ISSMGE. Currently, He is also elected as ISSMGE President from 2022 – 2026.


Ir. Davy Sukamta

(Director of Davy Sukamta & Partners)

Davy Sukamta is the principal and founder of Davy Sukamta & Partners, an engineering consulting firm in Jakarta. He graduated from Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung in Civil Engineering. He has been practicing structural and foundation engineering since 1978 and has completed over 300 major projects which include the Amartapura Condominium (the first building beyond 50-story in Indonesia), the super-tall 303-meter-high Indonesia-1 building (63-story with 7-level basement structure), and the Kediri airport earthwork and river diversion structures.

He is the former president of HAKI (Indonesian Society of Civil and Structural Engineers) and had served the position for five terms. He was a member of Building Structures Design Review Board for the municipality of DKI Jakarta (2001-2021). He is the head of the committee for SNI 8899:2020 Procedures for Selection and Modification of Ground Motions for Earthquake Resistant Building Design and RSNI Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings.

Prof. Kenichi Soga

(University of California, Berkeley)

Kenichi Soga is the Donald H. McLaughlin Professor in Mineral Engineering and a Chancellor’s Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the director of the Berkeley Center for Smart Infrastructure and is a faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is Special Advisor to the College of Engineering Dean for Resilient and Sustainable Systems. He obtained his BEng and MEng from Kyoto University in Japan and PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. He was Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Cambridge before joining UC Berkeley in 2016. He has published more than 450 journal and conference papers and is the co-author of "Fundamentals of Soil Behavior, 3rd edition" with Professor James K Mitchell. He is a Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Engineering Academy of Japan. He is the recipient of several awards including George Stephenson Medal and Telford Gold Medal from ICE and Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize from ASCE. He is the chair of Technical Committee TC105 "Geotechnics from Micro to Macro" of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and of ASCE Infrastructure Resilience Division’s Emerging Technologies Committee.


Prof. Kuo-Hsin Yang

(National Taiwan University)

Dr. Yang is currently a Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Taiwan University (NTU). Dr. Yang has many years’ experience in research and practice in geotechnical and geosynthetics engineering and contributed considerably to this field in education and service.

Dr. Yang participates in the ISSMGE technical committee for reinforced fill structures (TC218), and in the IGS technical committee for soil reinforcement (TC-Reinforcement). He serves as the council committee member and academic committee member in the Taiwan Geotechnical Society and Taiwan Geosynthetics Society. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of GeoEngineering, and the Taiwan Geotechnical Society Special Publication. He also serves in the editorial board member of the Geotextiles and Geomembranes. He is in the core organizing committee for the 16th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (16ARC 2019), and the 7th Asian Regional Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAsia 2022).


Prof. Paulus P. Rahardjo, Ph.D

(Parahyangan Catholic University)

Paulus P. Rahardjo, Ph.D has been actively engaged in teaching, research as well as hundreds of geotechnical consultancy. He works for design and advising clients on many geotechnical problems including building foundations, highways, tunnels, bridges, jetys and wharfs, dams, coal minings etc. Among his specialies with intense experience in research and practice are in the field of insitu testings and landslides or slope protections. He has written more than 200 articles/ papers, research reports and manuals. He has served the university as Department Head, Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Director of the Graduate Program and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. Currently, he is the coordinator of Geotechnical Engineering Division and Director of Research Center for Infrastructure and Urban Development. His affiliation include the Indonesian Geotechnical Society (HATTI), American Society of Civil Engineers in the Geo-Institute, the Indonesian Experts on Disasters (IABI) and Board Representative of International Consortium on Landslides (ICL), currently responsible for project IPL-195 Study for Mitigation and Recovery of Mud Eruption Disaster in East Java and Modeling for Risk Reduction Mudflow Hazards.


Prof. Richard Jardine

(Imperial College London)

Richard Jardine is College Senior Consul and Professor of Geomechanics in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was elected Fellow of the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers in 2001, the Royal Academy of Engineers in 2002, the City and Guilds Institute in 2008 and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science in 2018

Richard has contributed to offshore geotechnical engineering over most of his career. His early research pioneered laboratory-based small-strain FE modelling of foundations, included the first field observations of North Sea pile group load-displacement behaviour and paved the way for the ICP (Imperial College Pile) design method with findings that underpin international practice.

Richards work has led to prestigious invited lectures including the Geotechnique, Coulomb, Bishop (ISSMGE Honour) and Rankine Lectures. He has received awards from American Society of Civil Engineers, ASTM and the French, Canadian, Chinese, Irish, Portuguese and Japanese national societies, as well as multiple UK awards including Fellowship of Royal Academy of Engineering

Sindhu Rudianto, PE, GE

(Principal and Founder of PT. Geo Prima)

Sindhu Rudianto has 40 years of geotechnical consulting experience in Indonesia and abroad (US); his specialties include design of foundation and earth retaining structures, slope stability evaluation, earthquake engineering, geotechnical construction management and instrumentation monitoring.

Sindhu Rudianto is currently a principal and founder of PT. Geo Prima. He completed his MS. degree at University of California, Berkeley 1986 and his BS degree at Parahyangan University 1981
